Sewer Line Profile – Longitudinal Section Drawing

Enter or import the manhole inverts and ground levels, edit them in the tables, and get a scaled profile with manholes, pipe, data band and title block, cut into sheets. Print or save as PDF at true scale, export to Excel, or download a DXF for AutoCAD / MicroStation.

How to use the Sewer Line Profile tool

Everything runs in your browser – nothing is uploaded. If you are new to the tool, follow these steps in order.

1

Enter the manholes and ground levels

Type into the Manholes table and the Ground levels table, or copy rows in Excel and paste them into a cell. Press Enter to move down.

Preparing your own data – the easy way: press Load Sample Data, then ⬇ Export to Excel (.xlsx). That workbook is your template: replace the sample rows with your own (keep the heading row), save it, and bring it back with ⬆ Import from Excel (.xlsx). Its Settings sheet holds the drawing settings and title block, so you can fill those in Excel too.

SheetColumns, in this order
ManholesChainage (m) · MH name · IL in · Dia in (mm) · IL out · Dia out (mm) · Cover level
Ground levelsChainage (m) · Ground level
  • One row per manhole, upstream to downstream, chainage increasing. Levels in metres, diameters in millimetres.
  • Leave the MH name blank for a bend or level point without a manhole. A blank IL out or Dia out takes the IL in / Dia in value.
  • The ground levels are optional: leave that table empty and the ground is drawn through the cover levels.
  • CSV / TXT files work too: ↑ Import Table (.csv) on each table reads the same comma-separated files the MicroStation macro used (a heading row is allowed), and ↓ Export Table (.csv) gives you a CSV template.
2

Check the design

The Checks box lists typing mistakes, pipes running uphill, cover below the pipe crown and pipe sizes getting smaller. The Pipe schedule gives length, slope, 1 in X and manhole depths for every pipe.

3

Set the drawing and the title block

  • Drawing settings – scales (pick from the list or type any), paper, how strips are cut, grid, datum, manhole size. With Auto text size ticked the text height suits the scale.
  • Title block – pick a seal style and fill in project, client (name and logo), consultant, drawing number, revisions and initials. Each sheet gets its own chainage range and drawing number.
4

Print, PDF, DXF and report

  • 🖨 Print Drawings / Save as PDF prints the drawing sheets only – the set for the plotter or the tender drawings – at true scale. Keep Scale = 100% in the print dialog, or choose Save as PDF.
  • ⬇ Download DXF gives all sheets for AutoCAD / MicroStation, drawn in paper millimetres (plot at 1:1).
  • 📄 Generate Report first shows a short form: project information (the consultant details are remembered for all tools), an optional project introduction, and the cover page – this tool's A3 cover, your own cover image, or no cover. Then the report opens in a new tab: cover (A3), project data, checks, manhole and pipe schedules (A4) and all profile sheets (A3), with its own Print / Save as PDF button. If nothing opens, allow pop-ups for this site.
5

Save your project and open it later

💾 Save Project (.json) saves everything in one file; 📂 Load Project opens it again on any computer. + New Project clears the page. While Autosave in this browser is ticked, your work also comes back the next time you open the page on this computer.

All Tools

1 · Manholes and pipe inverts

One row per manhole, upstream to downstream. Dia in mm. Leave MH name blank for a bend or point without a manhole. Edit any cell, press Enter to go down, or paste rows copied from Excel into a cell. Import takes the same CSV/TXT file the MicroStation macro used.

2 · Ground levels (NSL)

Existing ground along the line. Leave the table empty to draw the ground through the manhole cover levels.

3 · Drawing settings

4 · Title block

Drawing sheets

Print tip: in the print dialog keep Scale = 100% (not “Fit”), margins none. Choose “Save as PDF” to get a PDF of every sheet at its paper size. The DXF is drawn in paper millimetres (1 unit = 1 mm on the sheet), like the MicroStation macro – plot it at 1:1.
